Priority!

The time has come to apply myself to the completion of this/these quilts! These dresdens came to me from my Great Grandmother Gertrude via my Mom. There are 20 blocks, multiple extra pieces, ice cream cone borders, sashings and posts, additional yardages of the purple and yellow. It is an amazing treasure, and I wish I could convey the beauty of these fabrics! My Mother stored these in archival, acid free paper, and they are in wonderful condition. I will be making five quilts instead of one, so as to share with my four sisters. And there is enough here to make a surprise something for my mother as well! This is THE priority of the new year...I am excited to see the quilts take shape!
I am clueless as to how to take optimal photos...maybe the pictures will improve as I work on this!
I love the purpley yellow orbs in the upper left...they make me think of olives!

Quiet hours are productive hours...

Late night....
early morning:)

It Has Been A Long Time...

My Dad has hosted a holiday open house for several years now. This is the first year we have been able to attend. We are missing only one nephew and his family. So this is our crew!

My sisters and I, in age order, oldest to youngest, Rebecca, Louise, Anne, Sarah and Jessica...a rare picture, indeed!
A long awaited game of backgammon with Grampa! (Nash won!)
My Hubby with all of his adoring nieces!
Girls being goofy :)
A wonderful, loud, loving evening! Thanks Dad!

More Coasters!

So I finally brought all my sewing stuff out to the farm! I am motivated by the December goals I set for myself earlier, and figured there was absolutely no way they would be accomplished without this "change of venue"! I am making some progress on my Block of the Month quilt top, and will likely work on it today since it is snowy and blowy out!

And while these are not listed as December goals, I love making these coasters, and have made two more sets:)

Made using this tutorial from Jeni @ In Color Order, of course!

Hope your snowy, blowy day is a happy one!

12 Months...12 Blocks!

When we moved across the country, from Montana to Indiana in January of this year, I knew it would be a long time before I would have a regular time and place to sew. Enter Jeni at In Color Order, and her Block of the Month. I went and purchased a few fat quarters and we were off and sewing! My "regular" place to sew continues to be in town at my Mother-In-Law's, sewing machine on a card table in her guest room, along with the ironing board in the hallway. And look what I have to show for it! Having a little something to look forward to sewing every month has been fun; learning and incorporating techniques for more accurate piecing has been rewarding. I am confident this project won't be "in progress" much longer...it will be an extra fun finish!

Three Things for December....

1. Purchase orange fleece for the backing of this quilt

and make ready for hand quilting, pick stitch style, ala Molly Flanders!

2. Assemble one of five small quilts to be assembled from these blocks from my great grandmother Artherholt!

3. Assemble quilt top for In Color Order's Block of the Month!

This would constitute a huge month for me.....!

Thanks to Elle for the heads-up on this with Traceyjay!

Glorious Ordinary Morning

This is the day that the Lord hath made; I will rejoice and be glad in it!

(This horizon is the back of a front (?!) that went through yesterday. So unusual!)
