Latest Greatest Finish!

I love these placemats so much!  They are for my brother-in-law.  On a recent visit, we found the Amy Butler in the destash bin at my new favorite local shop, The Little Golden Fox. After he got home he found the coordinating coral and stripe to go with, and sent them up!  We talked long distance about patterns, but he left the design choice up to me.  I happily found this free download which was almost exactly what I had been drawing up in my mind, I just didn't quite know how to accomplish it!  Now I do!  The instructions were clear and I love how they turned out!  The main fabric is Paradise Garden from Amy Butler's Love collection....I will be acquiring yardage for myself, since there are next to no leftovers! Now I know why everyone loves Amy Butler!  This is the first piece I've ever seen in person, and it is soooo gorgeous! I backed them with osnaburg, which I always have lots of for boys' "frontier" shirting.  I must also restash my light blue pearl bracelets!
I rushed to finish the binding on these today, so I could link up with Finish It Up Friday at CrazyMomQuilts!
Mission accomplished!

Real Life, an aside

I found this video this morning, made only a couple days ago, and really wanted to share, in the hopes that it may find it's way to help someone.

If you or someone you know has chronic skin rashes, eczema or other skin condition that refuses to heal or stay healed, please take 15 minutes and watch this video, a Q&A with a Dr. Rapaport, from southern California, the dermatologist who recognized this as a condition brought on by the use and misuse of cortisone and corticosteroid treatments.  I won't try to explain all the details here.  Watch the video, or go to ITSAN.org for more information and resources.

I post this because my husband has been enduring the "withdrawal" from OTC cortisone cremes for 94 days now.  We are hopeful that he is over the worst of it, and so thankful for this man, Dr. Rapaport, and the support of folks who have trodden this road before us and shared their experiences and ultimate recoveries.

And now, back to my current project.....(so excited!)

Blogger's Quilt Festival: Spring 2013!

It is here again!  This is the first time, on this blog, that I have participated in this amazing event!  I LOVE all the beautiful quilts displayed, and the excuse to explore the blogs of fun, sweet quilters! Don't we all?!!!

So here is my entry in the Baby Quilt category.  I chose this category simply because of the size of this quilt...I didn't have a baby in mind when I made it!

I call it by it's fabric name: "It's A Hoot".  And it fits perfectly!  I bought the single charm pack on a whim (!!). All I knew was that I wanted triangles and lots of them.  And light blue.

This JoAnn's polka dot daisy came to me all the way from Florida, and my Aunt Marge!

I originally wanted light blue and green on the back, but, hey, It's a Hoot, make do with what ya got!

I was sewing along with Jeni Baker's HST Block of the Month while laying this out, and came up with the border pattern because of her June block.  It allowed me to enlarge the quilt, but still keep the feel of lots of triangles.  I like the way it all turned out.

Persistence Pays Off

The last day of Spring turkey season the boys were joined by a good friend, and turkey whisperer, to finally make it happen.  Almost doubled up on the birds, but one is better than none!  A great morning, after the crazy weather we've had the last couple of weeks.

Congratulations Nash!

Table Runner 2wenty-Thr3e

I took advantage of a wet, cold Saturday to put together a simple little table runner with a charm pack of  2wenty-Thr3ee, from Moda.
assembling the back

it's just not quite right without a few HSTs
My original plan had included a few scattered HSTs...should have stuck with that.

the back turned out fun
Lesson learned?  Do not assume the quilting will go well if you sew up the edges first.  I turned this inside out, like my coasters, to finish the edge, instead of using a binding.  Mistake.  What was intended to simplify, actually complicated what should have been a pretty straight forward quilting task.
So I am thinking of HSTs and osnaburg binding for the remaining charms....?
