Tuesday Tidbits

Welcome to this rather lengthy "edition" of Tuesday Tidbits!

First, a zippered pouch!

Long overdue, for Mary, a sewing friend back home!

Have I mentioned I have been salvaging zippers? This pouch used one from a pair of Wranglers :

I really have no use for buttons...but while salvaging, I could hardly pitch 'em! lol!

The navy zippers are about 8", the tan one, from an old pair of cargo shorts is only about 6". 

I have also officially dismantled my first, and only, jelly roll!

Miss Kate has been waiting patiently...I was planning to make a Moda Bake Shop pattern,

 "9-Patch Posie".

But the moment I laid eyes on this quilt, action was taken immediately!!

to the point, pattern by Stitchery Dickory Dock!

Ooooh! It is going to be HST awesomeness!!! And my first Bonnie & Camille quilt!
I would still really like to make the 9-Patch Posie...

My Simply Sawtooth BOM has been caught up

July and August blocks

Here they are all together...there are 2 more blocks, not shown. I think 2 more sets of stars will round this out nicely.

That will bring the total number of blocks to 30, affording a 5x6 setting, for an approximately 60x72 finished quilt! 

After the Prairie Rose Garden finish, I went to my sewing corner for a little "instant gratification".

I was thinking "pin cushion", in keeping with the Good Neighbors Pin Cushion Party going on (hasn't it been such fun?)!

those 2 rectangles of 6 hsts were supposed to be the top and bottom of said pin cushion

Except the gratification took a different turn...

Using Krista@Poppyprints new-to-me method of 8-per-square HST construction...

sew to either side of each diagonal, cut each diagonal plus the vertical and horizontal
sweeeet!

...I got a bit carried away!

Starting with my extra Tucker Prairie 4" squares these little HSTs trimmed to 1.5" and will finish at 1" :)

I don't have a pre-planned final destination for these, but I think I know the general direction

and I have cut more 4" squares...stay tuned... :)

And then, just yesterday, this happened!

Carrie of Gotcha Covered Quilting, put out a request for hexie flowers, for her healing process to come. I found out about this through her FaceBook and jumped in.

 I have never made a hexie. Never wanted to make a hexie.

 But after watching the love poured out to Rachel with Flowers For Eleni from the sidelines, I don't want "I don't do hexies" to derail my heart response to her pain.  Carrie probably doesn't "know" me in this quilty world, yet we do share it, and that is what this is about to me. 

Action today, no excuses!

These are very liable to be both my first and my last hexies...in spite of the dire warnings of hexie addiction...

Friday Finishes!

In keeping with my leisurely pace this year, I have a couple small-ish finishes to share today!

My Mother's birthday is later this month so I thought I would make her a couple little somethings.

I knew I wanted to make her a zippered pouch. She makes frequent overnight trips to various of my sisters' homes, and I thought it might be useful for those.

Four charms from Lotta Jansdotter's Sylvia collection and a couple 2" strips of osnaburg

I used a 7" zipper, and it measures 8.5" x 5.75"

I also wanted to make her a summer "wreath". She won a quilted Christmas Wreath in a silent auction and was so tickled with it, I thought this ever-sweet pattern would be perfect for the warmer season!

It has rather over-sized corner tabs for hanging. I hope it will fit over the same framed picture in her entry as the Christmas one did.

In keeping with the first of this pattern that I made and called "Winter Sparkle",

 I call this one "Summer Frolic" :)

I used five 5" charms of Basic Grey's PB&J, and one 5" charm of their Persimmon, along with another Persimmon print for the binding. 

It ended up measuring 22" x 22"

I also made up a drawstring bag for my Hoosier friend, Hannah, whose birthday is also this month.

The boys put in a few things, including a handmade coyote call and some candies to sweeten the package.

It was very fun to use a couple of those fat quarters I won awhile back.

Some Final Finishes, and etcetera...

The year winds down and we are compelled to "wrap it up" somehow, aren't we?

So here is the end of it for me...a couple quilts to bring my year's total to 14! 

I know, 14 in '14, very cool!

Onto the final finishes....

You can almost see the snow melting in this picture, can't you?

No, seriously, it is only 5 degrees...the only snow melting is what got carried in on the quilt!

I finished this Thanksgiving Day, but really wanted to wait for just the perfect weather conditions before snapping a few pics! *wink* 

I was inspired to venture out today by Karen @Pieces of Contentment....her beautiful photos, by the water, in the Summer, in Australia...ahhhh :)

Here are some soft lovelies I picked up on a recent trip to the big city of Billings...

...that turned into another fleece backed quilt...

...with simple quilting on the diagonals. 

For my Uncle and Aunt, in hopes that a quilty hug is better than no hug at all!

A first for me! A zippered pouch! Using my beloved Garden Party, by Jane Dixon, and osnaburg!

Even at my beginners pace, I was able to start and finish this in one afternoon!

I can certainly see why everyone makes these...such a fun little guy to make! But for the life of me, I am sure I have no use whatever for one...so I shall have to give this one, and the others I am sure to make, away to my many sisters, nieces, cousins and friends :)

And just for some end of year fabric fun...the "etcetera"

I sold a chicken on Etsy, so turned it into these, from Shabby Fabrics, at a deep discount!

Gotta love these end of year sales, eh?

Finally, my first Jeni Baker fabric, from her Dreamin Vintage collection...Sweet, isn't it?

And the Pearl Bracelets, to bolster my lagging orange stash :) And the gray, just because :)

I was also a lucky FaceBook winner of a mini charm pack of Gardenvale(!!!) from The Fat Quarter Shop the other day! Yippee!

And number one fave...

It surprised me...the florals are so cute...that I would pick a geometric...but I love the crosshatch, and the sprinkling of black throughout the many prints is really appealing to me. It may be in part due to the time I have been spending with my Great Grandmother's Dresdens, and the wonderful array of those vintage prints...more on that later ;)

I have proclaimed this the "Year of the Chicken", for obvious reasons :)
